28th December 2009

Christmas is over for another year and I still have a couple of quid in my (new) wallet....

Currently playing - BF1943 360, Trials HD 360, New Super mario Bros - Wii, Modern Warfare 2 - pc, loads and loads of scrabble on the Itouch, reading nothing, listening to nothing, watching xmas tv mainly

Got some nice bits for xmas including a new sony compact camera.

The stupid snow has finally melted - but it was nice to go out and take some photos in it...not so nice to keep slipping up on the icy paths.

It is coming back on Thursday.

14th November 2009

It is a milestone birthday for me tomorrow and I still feel and act about 25 yrs old.

Think I am getting Rock Band and just bought a new pair of binoculars today with gift cards and money

Also got a half bottle of vodka, do that may get necked (it has taken me 2 weeks to forget my `vodka night of horror`)

Happy birthday to me.

Bought the bins after going to a local rspb reserve and having one of the best mornings of the year just walking about and enjoying the quiet and the birds. Got chatting to a chap and he let me have a go of his bins (which cost £900) and after this, I felt my £5 market cheapo binoculars needed replacing,

Paid 39.00 and they are 5 million times better than my old ones and about 10 times worse than the £900 pair....

They will do for me.

Sunday, 1 November 2009

Oh dear god where is my head??

A bottle and a half of vodka last night at our Halloween party and it got to 8 o clock (I think) and I started puking some scary shit down the toilet

Never again

Monday 26th October 2009

Well its been a canny while since I have had energy drinks....water and low calorie pop at the moment....replaced it with something else - not a perfect solution but better I think....

i must try and stop doing anything in extreme, but work sucks without it so I will keep on for a bit....

Not reading anything
Playing BF1943 on the 360 and the utterly fantastic wii sports resort on the wii and the utterly amazing original uncharted on the ps3.
Listening to lots such as Oasis, The verve, chemical brothers and bits of other bands and artists....

trying to think if anything is annoying me or making me feel good and I think I am on a level plateau at the moment....

My 40th bd next month and I have nothing planned apart from going for a meal with my family...not sure where...but no surprises as it doesnt really mean anything to me....

xmas is nearly here and presents have already been bought...

looking forward to a week off work to take photos and be with the wife and kids

Monday, 12 October 2009

Hey you its October 12th

OK I think I have finally realised that I have a very addictive personality....I have to do something in extreme at every point in my life, from vodka, to gaming, to music, to work , to sex, to other things like E nergy drinks.....

I have been in a better mood today as I am without stimulants.....no pro plus...no energy drinks....

I think it is time for a water detox....(I have one every couple of months) it will hopefully purge my body of shit and get me on an `even keel` as the nautical freaks would say.

Work still sucks....but it went ok today . After the smelly smackheads of last week...I had a very nice old chap in today and he said that I had been very helpful...it really made me feel good....

Cheers Old geezer....

Playing BF1943 - 360 and GT on the PSP
Reading - Nothing
Listening to - Foofighters
Just watched - BBc4 Micro Men about clive sinclair and chris curry and the battle of the home micros in the 80s......Absolutely brilliant.

Must go out and take some more photos with my new compact camera....

6th October 2009

Finished Ray Mears Telemark book - very good- they were brave geezers
Listening to my new sennheiser in ear headphones and my ipod - amazing headphones !!!!

Playing Gran Turismo on the PSP - Brilliant

Work sucks, same old all day every day and now I am starting to get annoyed with people I am on the phone to or work with or the 2 fucking smackheads who were talking 10 bags of shit to me today, whilst eyeing up the office and the grounds......

I am quite tolerant with drug users, but this breed of fucking vermin really get on my nerves...why cant they just stay in the house, get hammered and watch a good film or listen to some music or play a game.....Behind every good song is a good pill...and it is a fact that drugs have helped the world when they are used - not abused.....so these 2 rats really annoyed me today.........calling me mate and talking utter shit...please go home and OD.

I was going to type `I dont get paid enough to put up with this shit`, but to be honest I dont care about the money - Even if I was paid £100000 a year - I wouldnt want to put up with this shit.....

I am sick of being sick of this shit - I really must do something about it......

Am I Bi-polar??? or just sick of crap........

bastard smackheads rattled me more than I thought.......

Thursday, 24 September 2009

What the hell are you up to?

Reading - Ray Mears - Heroes of the Telemark
Listening to - ORBITAL - BRILLIANT
Watching - Shite telly
Playing - COD 4 on the pc and Killzone on the PSP
Eating - Sandwiches
Drinking - Lots of energy drinks (I really must stop)

Its a couple of days since Orbital

BEST GIG EVER.....by a long way

A heady combination of vodka, energy drinks, cider, a 95p cadburys caramel a cheeseburger, doner kebab, Orbital and 2 blue smurfs meant this gig was the best ever.

I am a massive fan of the brothers from down south and this is the 2nd time I have seen them live.

This time was better.....Apart from my shitty camera (or the vodka) taking shit video (well audio actually) ...this night was fantastic...it was like a greatest hits tour...and they played all the classics...Chime, Lush, Belfast and Satan....

I was wrecked and was instantly transported back 20 years and made some amazing shapes with my hands and it was all big fish little fish cardboard box.

Top one nice one get sorted.

Update - September 14th 2009

Well at the moment I am off work and watching Rik and Ade in Bottom - easily one of the funniest comedy shows ever.

Playing a load of really cool games at the moment as I have just linked up my dreamcast (happy birthday) and playing games such as Rez, Ikaruga, Propeller Arena and many many more - this is a class console.

Bought another HUGE bike for a tenner off my next door neighbour, so I have been tweaking and cleaning and changing seats and having some really nice little bike rides with the family....

Playing loads of games, reading nothing at the moment and watched Midnight Run on HD DVD yesterday.......one of the greatest films ever.

I am having a great time at the moment, but all this will crumble to nothingness when I go and see Orbital next week in Newcastle.

This is the highlight of the year and if they are 1% as good as the last time I saw them, it will be amazing.

Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day.

what I am doing at the moment

Reading - John Merrills around the coast of the uk walk book from the 1970s - BRILLIANT
Listening to - Bill bryson The adventures of the thunderbolt kid - BRILLIANT
Watching - Planet Earth on HD DVD
Playing - COD 4 on the pc and Lumines 2 on the PSP
Eating - Curry chips and rice
Drinking - Lots of energy drinks and vodka

Bought Ray Mears the heroes of Telemark for 1.75 today.

ps3 hard drive replacement and the predicament of recording the tv

Bought a 320gb hard drive for my ps3 as I also recently bought Play TV.

My old Wharfedale hd recorder knacked in spectacular fashion......

Considering I threw all videos out of the house and video recorders out even earlier, we have had no way of recording anything off the tv...Even though Iplayer and torr3nt sites have covered most angles, it is still nice to have the facility to tape and watch something the same night or just to keep it...

I priced up a new method of recrding the tv and had a bright light appear in my head when I looked at my ps3.....if I buy a bigger hd for it and `that play tv thing` ...well you get the idea....

it works a treat and actually has a better quality picture than the old freeview method....

It only has the standard uk freeview channels, but that is more than enough for me...

the hd was a doddle to swap and the whole lot cost me about £80.

So I now watch and record freeview on my 320gb ps3.......and the fact that Iplayer has been chucked in the latest update means the 360 can get stuffed....even though I bought bf1943 for it, I havent renewed my xbox live gold and I think now - whats the point.....

The ps3 has really started to be the top console for my house and I will probably buy ps3 online games from now on and let the 360 play hd dvds and nowt else.....until xbox live is free anyway !!

Films that are git good like - the shawshank redemption

male rape, the sisters, roof tarring, brutal guards, the best warden ever, Tim robbins doing something good for once, music from heaven, the oak tree.....

Its fucking brilliant

canny good films = southern comfort

Mountain men, cajun music, the swamp

Amazingly scary film

Superb Films = The Great Escape

James Garner as the scrounger.

Thats all you need to know - this is the best film ever.

Best Films - Deliverance

Banjos, mountain men and male rape, add in a dash of horrible broken arm and Burt reynolds doing something decent and you have a brilliant film.

Favourite Films - Midnight Run

Easily the best De Niro film and Charles Grodin is brilliant in this road movie with some of the best swearing ever.

Funny, action packed and utterly charming....if you havent seen it....see it

24th August 2009

Been on holiday, been to crappy work, been out on my bike.

now get stuffed

Illness, illness and more illness

I have been ill for 3 weeks now and I am just seeing the light at the end of the sickness tunnel.

Flu, strange substances coughed up, very strange pain in my back which prevented me from walking upright and dizziness. With all the swine flu nonsense in the media I went to the doctor who said I had a viral infection. Sick time off work was the only good thing about it as I got to watch a load of films especially Collateral with jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise.

I really dont know why Tom Cruise gets slated for his films - he is brilliant in this one.

If you are reading this Tom - Well Done.

Michael Mann is a class director though, so I will give kudos to him and jamie foxx as well - Well done you cheeky rascals.

I am going on holiday on Monday.

Ive been living my life

Chilling out today as we have just tidied the entire house because my daughter is having her 11th Birthday party tomorrow.

Played a few games, listened to some music and ingested 4 kilos of house dust.

My camping trip was excellent apart fromthe sweary chavs in the tents surrounding us and my bike has had a couple of little rides around the village, but my leg is smashed in so I cannot go on a long journey yet.....but I will probably this week.

Got another new camera Panasonic fz50 and its rocks like a rock that is being sold in a rock shop by a former rock star.

Got a new mouse razor copperhead and playing lots of face shooting games on my pc.

I am skint but I have lots of new toys.

Finished reading a couple of books over the last few weeks....Simon Winchesters excellent book Korea and the quickest I have ever read a book which was Jon Krakaeurs (sic) Into The Wild.

The film is amazing and the book does no harm to this inspiring and moving story of Chris Mc Candless and the last few months of his life.

read the book and watch the film.

2 wheels and a lot of weight to shift

Bought a 2nd hand mountain bike last night....

I had a really nasty accident (not bike related) in 1996 which prevented me from using a bike, but I now feel better so on a whim bought a 2nd hand mountain bike.

It feels so good to ride (oo-er)

I am away camping this weekend, but will start the evening regime of 1 mile, then 2 mile, then 3 mile, then the big wobbly belly should disappear.

Exercise !!!!!

I bet it becomes my new addiction

Arcade Stick

Picked one up for £7.99 and am now giving MAME some serious hammer playing these games as the good lord allah buddah intended...with a small joystick and big buttons....

Bombjack, galaxians, track & field and scramble have all been played and all been enjoyed.

Michael Jackson - The death of a former very good music artiste

OK so everyone has heard....

MJ has passed away and it is on every news programme and every tv station and every radio show and people who just2 weeks ago were slagging him off are now saying they were his best mate.

This is my 2 pence worth...his early music work was fantastic and he was a brilliant entertainer and also a father to his kids.

He was also (and lets be honest) a little bit freaky and did himself no favours in the latter half of his life.

Once again the media can be partly blamed for keeping the bandwagon going and reporting on every crazy story that was made up, but lets not forget the old saying `there is no smoke without fire`

In this world of z list celebrity being treated as saints (Jade Goody), lets remember him when he was at the peak of his career and put everything else in the part of the brain that is labelled `better forgotten`

RESPECT.

thats all...

Friday 26th June 2009

Another dull day at work today and that has been my constant niggle this week - work.

It isnt very good at the moment and my mind is drawn more and more to redundancy or early retirement....at my age that is quite unusual (I am less than 40) but work does not interest me any more....I am not lazy and I have just had my yearly appraisal in which I was told I was `pretty bloody brilliant` but i think to myself what is the point of working my arse off - i dont get any extra money, people dont think any greater of me - in fact they just think `scorpio48k will sort that out`

I might get an allotment...that could the catalyst in eventually buying a smallholding and becoming more self sufficient...paying no one for anything....

no work - no money - no hassle.....

Thursday 18th June 2009

MMM well it all seems a bit dull after the Oasis gig.

Work sucks and I think my mood level is at an all time low.

Only payday can help me now.

It isnt that bad though as I had a very nice walk along the beach today before I went to work.

I wish I had a job that involved walking along a deserted beach.

Saw a man metal detecting ... he was about 200 metres away from me and he turned and waved at me...

That cheered me up - then the cynic in my head said `he must be either gay or a total idiot`

why do I hate people so much ??

I scare myself sometimes.......

Monday, 15 June 2009

Monday 15th June 2009

OK I have had the weekend to recover from last weeks vodka frenzy at the oasis gig.

All I have listened to since is Kasabian.

Every album they have done has been amazing and the new album is stunning.

They did a live version of Candi Staton - You got the Love.....

WOW

Nothing else needs saying.

This is one band I could watch live again now. Next time they play anywhere in the North I will be there.

Bless them all.

Thursday, 11 June 2009

Wednesday 10th June 2009 - OASIS

It is now Thursday and I feel quite...fragile.

It all began at approximately 2pm yesterday with the opening of a bottle of Smirnoff and a can of Relentless......half a bottle of vodka, 3 cans of Relentless, 4 pints of cider and another mystery drink and I can safely say that yesterdays mini festival at the Stadium of Light was one of the best days out ever.

Packed out with very drunk people listening to Reverend and the makers, The Enemy, kasabian and then Oasis.

A steady stream of thrown lager glasses, drizzly rain and the heady waft of some evil smelling skunk ensured that this was going to be a day to remember.

The Music was amazing, the prices of beer were disgraceful and the chips were horrible, but what a day.

Thank you to the bands involved....they were really good and should consider doing it for a living

Tuesday, 9 June 2009

Tuesday 9th June 2009

Reading a really good book at the moment.....Korea - A Walk through the land of Miracles by Simon Winchester.....A walking tour through South Korea and jolly good it is too. I am a huge fan of Travel books, any book that teaches me and takes me on a mind holiday to that country is worth reading...it would be nice to read a book about every country in the world....that would be a challenge....

Listening to Oasis, Kasabian and The Enemy and at lunchtim today was feeling a little wiped out so listened to The Orb which really got my head back to normal ready for my afternoon shift.

Came home and played Dead Rising and just finished a nice game of Bejeweled 2....

Might go to bed now as all that is on the tv is roulette channels, Big brother and crappy dave repeats and horrible BBC3.

Picture of the day .......

Thank you to The Orb for Little Fluffy Clouds

Racing Games

This generation of video gaming has seen a truly astounding leap forward in the world of racing games.

I have been a big fan of racing games (although I am no good at them) since the early days of chequered flag on the speccy and those type in magazine listing for the zx81 where you steered the letter x in between some brackets ( x )

Every machine since has had to have a decent racer and to be honest I cannot remember a machine that didnt have a really good racing game....One of my personal favourites is Power Drive on the Jaguar....crap machine but a stunning game.

At the moment I am a little spoiled for choice as on my PC I have the Big Daddy - Grid and on the PS3 I have the Giant haystacks that is GT5 Prologue.

The 360 has too many good racing games and I still play PGR3, Forza2, Stuntman Ignition, Flatout and a very under rated game Fatal Inertia

My son bough Fuel for the 360 at the weekend and I must say this could be my next purchase (as he will not lend me anything :( )

Great times for the racing fans......but they always have been !!!!

Yay for games - they make me smile :)

Friday, 5 June 2009

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for the PS3

Yip thats what I bought today and if I hadnt had half a bottle of vodka and stoopid Eastenders wasnt on, I would be playing it.

£12 second hand for what is apparently the best racer for the ps3.....

It will do me until the full whack game is released....

Watched Mr Beans Holiday on HD DVD yesterday as daughter was poorly....good film and some laugh out loud moments and a couple of laugh out quiet moments too.

Listening to Oasis, kasabian new album and the Enemy as I am going to see them next wednesday....

Cant wait and I think the vodka will be downed on that day too.....

rock on with the vodka frenzy

Big Brother 10 - UK

I watched the 1st series of BB and was genuinely interested in the mix of characters and dynamics within the house.

Then the producers of the show decided that characters = viewing figures and this is where my viewing ended....

I watch the first show of every series just to see how far we have sunk as a country and last nights show continued this rapid decline. Out of 16 `characters` there were probably 2 who I wouldnt immediately tell to F OFF. The wolverine chap might be ok and the american kid seemed a bit less hyper than the other utter morons who are apparently `pretty`. I am always confused by the medias description of beautiful or handsome and I just saw a lot of plastic me me me people last night.

Look around at your workplace or college or school and pick just 2 people you could share a house with......

I bet they are funny, kind, caring people and probably been hit with an ugly stick or maybe have a little bit of flob ontheir belly or crappy hair...

Looks mean shit all in the real world....

Its only skin deep and this programme has the thinnest skin ever.

I WILL NOT WATCH ANYMORE

Until show one series 11

Return from the dark side

Its been a fair while since I posted....

I seem to have lost all interest in Blogs and Twitter and all this rubbish....

On refelection though the blog seems to be a good balance for me, I have been using Twiiter and blogs as a kind of research to see if it could be used at my work and I now realise that Twitter is useless...I dont care what you are doing every minute of the day and I sure as hell know that you dont care what I am doing every minute of the day....its all about numbers....how many followers.....how many friends.....please like me ...be my pretend friend.....

I dont care if I have no friends in the real world or online....

99% of people are utter idiots anyway.

<>

I will continue to post every so often, but it might just be a way for me to vent my anger

Sunday, 15 February 2009

i might take a day off too.....

Thursday, 12 February 2009

I knew it would be a different day today and I was right....

11.30 the snow started and it still hasnt stopped.

Finished work early and went sledging with my daughter......Great fun !

Wednesday, 11 February 2009

I have been to work today and listened to managers still talking rubbish and colleagues talking the same old nonsense over and over again.....I went to work on the bus as normal and had my normal dinner of 2 sandwiches....

Bought Chuck & Larry on HD DVD for £2.99 today.

Read a bit more of Bear Grylls ascent of everest on the bus home.

Came home played Far Cry 2 for a short while (good game with intelligent baddies) then had a short blast on Mario kart on the DS (one of the better versions) had tea watched crappy telly surfed the net for a bit

A pretty normal dull day.

Tomorrow will be better.
I also have an Amiga A1200 with HD and a lovely little pcmcia compact flash adaptor

How could I forget one of the finest gaming machines ever?

Simple I have too much stuff.

Tuesday, 10 February 2009

Surely the most used keys on my keyboard.....a lovely Z board with a fantastic First Person shooter keyboard replacement....I love this keyboard...and I love FPS games.......

My Kit List

OK so I have a lot of kit to play with so I thought I would do a list.

I dont have a great deal of cash but any spare hobby cash I have normally gets spent of wires, adaptors, games, dvds, hd dvds and things that link all my kit together.

Consoles and Gaming items 1st

  • Spectrum 48k - Rubber beermat computer that I load games onto using my 80gb Ipod Classic
  • NES & 8 games
  • 2 x SNES & 10 games
  • 4 N64s and about 60 games
  • Sega Dreamcast with vga box - linked to a 17" monitor
  • Turbografx 16 with 3 games
  • 2 x Xbox (1 chipped with media center & 1 `normal`)
  • Gameboy SP
  • Gameboy Micro with EZ Flash cart
  • DS Lite with R4 cart
  • Sony PSP
  • 2 x Playstation & 1 Sony PS One
  • Atari Jaguar & 5 games
  • Sega Megadrive with NO GAMES !!!
  • Xbox 360 Arcade with 20gb HD
  • Sony Playstation 2
  • Nintendo Wii
  • PC with a canny bit of storage and runs most new games mid spec....it also has a shed load of emulators. Fallout 3 is the most played game on the PC at the moment.
(there is also a PS3 and another 360 in my sons room and my daughter has a pink PS2 and a Huge DS and just got a lovely new laptop for xmas...my wife also has her own laptop to look at blouses and things on Ebay)

I think that is it...I have sold a lot of bits & bobs lately as I never had time to play them all and to be honest I may have to have another de-clutter soon as I have too many machines and I am running out of space....

The 360 is getting most use at the moment but when I have finished reading the Bear Grylls book, the PSP is going to be getting some use.
At the moment I am

  1. Playing Battlefield Bad Company & Far Cry 2- 360
  2. Reading Bear Grylls Everest book
  3. Listening to Oasis on my Ipod
  4. Tweaking my original xbox with xbox media centre
  5. Getting my PSP up to date
  6. archiving ALL my digital photos from the last 8 years (HARD WORK !)

This is Scorpio and he really is a bit crazy......

Easily the best (worst ?) baddie to feature in any film. His creepy singing on the school bus still sends shivers down my spine and Dirty Harry is one of my favourite films. The music, direction, story, acting and general gritty 70s theme still beats any modern film into the ground.

I will patter on a lot about films in this blog and probably return to the Dirty harry topic soon as I have the other 4 films to watch in a 5 disc box set that i picked up really cheap from my local `wednesday tat market` £8 for the lot !!!

Introduction

Hello there

This blog will basically be the contents of my head. It will be all the things I do, see, think about, listen to and probably quite a lot of things that annoy and please me.

From Video Games to Music to films to books to photos to anything else.

Keep visiting and please leave whatever comments you wish.

the blog is named scorpio48k as I was born in November, My favourite baddie in a film is Scorpio from Dirty Harry and I fell in love with a spectrum 48k computer when I was 12.
